Cornell Develops AI-Powered Smart Workout Shirt

Researchers at the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science have developed a new type of smart clothing called SeamFit. The T-shirt is designed like a standard short-sleeved shirt and includes flexible conductive threads sewn into the neck, arm, and side seams. An artificial intelligence pipeline built into the garment detects movements, identifies exercises, and counts repetitions automatically.

After use, the wearer removes a circuit board located at the back neckline and washes the shirt in a standard washing machine. The research team hopes SeamFit will benefit athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and patients undergoing physical therapy.
