Flash Flood Watch Issued For New Mexico Regions
The National Weather Service in Albuquerque reported a continued heightened risk for flash flooding across central and eastern New Mexico this afternoon. Another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected to add to the rainfall from yesterday. A new Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for much of central and southern New Mexico, including areas such as Las Cruces, the Albuquerque metro area, Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Roswell, and Ruidoso.
The forecast calls for most areas to receive between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain, with some locations possibly seeing more than 2 inches. Heavy rain could lead to flooding in low-lying areas, along rivers and creeks, and on roads. Areas with recent wildfire burn scars are particularly at risk, as they may flood with lower rainfall amounts. The Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from 12 PM MDT on Wednesday until 12 AM MDT on Thursday.
