Cornell's CHE Internship Immerses Students in NYC Culture

This summer, Human Ecology students at Cornell University participated in the CHE in NYC Internship Program. The program allowed students to gain real-world experience in New York City while attending internships and exploring the city. Students worked at organizations including GlamourGals, the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem, New York Law School, and the NYC Mayor’s Office of Urban Agriculture. In addition to their internships, participants attended Broadway shows, visited museums, and took a kayak tour of Manhattan on the Hudson River.

The program also offered opportunities for students to build professional networks with Cornell alumni. Among this year’s participants were Renee Du, Taylor Cole, Katrina Samuda, Lauren Unger, Joanne Lin, Audrey Manley, and Ili Pecullan. The students integrated their Human Ecology studies with work in various communities across New York City. The program, supported by Cornell through stipends, housing, and courses for preparation and reflection, combines community engagement, career development, and cultural immersion. Applications for the summer 2026 program will open this fall.
