Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Northeast Pennsylvania, Central NY
The National Weather Service issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch #315 for portions of Central New York and northeast Pennsylvania, in effect until 10:00 PM EDT.
The watch includes counties in New York: Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Onondaga, Otsego, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, and Tompkins. Pennsylvania counties included are Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming.
Communities listed as affected include Binghamton, Elmira, Ithaca, Syracuse, Cortland, Oneonta, Owego, Corning, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton, Towanda, Honesdale, Tunkhannock, and surrounding areas.
Residents were advised to remain weather aware and be prepared for severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall. The post also said to monitor local forecasts and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings throughout the evening.
