Utica crews battle working vehicle fire on Noyes St.

Utica Fire Department said Oneida County 911 began receiving calls this morning at 0240 hours reporting a house fire in the 1100 block of Noyes St. on the city’s west side.

A first-alarm assignment including Engine 1, Engine 7, Engine 3, Rescue 2, Truck 1 and Car 4 (D/C Puleo) responded. Upon arrival, Car 4 found a vehicle fully involved between two houses, with fire extending to both residences and into the interior of 1108 Noyes St. D/C Puleo upgraded the incident to a working fire.

All first-alarm companies worked to extinguish the vehicle fire, stretch hose lines to the affected exposure, and protect the adjacent structure. The fire extended significantly into the exposure building at 1108 Noyes St., affecting both floors and the attic. Firefighters brought the blaze under control approximately one hour after dispatch.

Units on scene included Car 1 (Chief of Department Ingersoll), Car 5 (Chief Fire Marshal Karwacki), Unit 8 (EMS Coordinator Springer), and Car 4-4 (D/C Trzcinski) as Safety Officer, along with the Utica Police Department.

The department said 1108 Noyes St. was also the site of a previous fire in January that escalated to a second-alarm incident during a winter storm. It said the structure was vacant prior to that fire and has remained vacant since, and noted fires involving structurally compromised buildings pose inherent dangers to firefighters. Crews searched for any occupants and worked to prevent further fire spread.
