Firefighters Contribute to Fight Food Insecurity

Staff Report / Binghamtonlocal.org

On November 28th, Firefighter Chris Mallery of the Binghamton Fire Benevolent Association presented a check for $299 to Dickie White, a leading fundraiser for Bearded Broome. This contribution is part of an ongoing effort to support food insecurity in Broome County.

Since its launch in 2021, Bearded Broome has raised a total of $79,000, all of which goes directly to CHOW (Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse) of Broome County. This year alone, the campaign has successfully raised over $33,000.

Food insecurity affects many individuals in the area, with estimates suggesting that 1 in 4 people may be unsure where their next meal will come from. CHOW addresses this issue by supplying food to those in need and assisting more than 100 food pantries, meal sites, and residential homes at no cost.

Binghamton Fire Benevolent Association expressed pride in collaborating with Bearded Broome and CHOW to make a positive impact on the community.
