Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month 2024 this weekend at a family-friendly event at the Polish Community Center in Binghamton's First Ward. As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close next week, community members are encouraged to support local Hispanic-owned businesses or explore new ones.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed annually from September 15 to October 15, highlighting the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens with ancestry from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America. The significance of September 15 lies in its recognition of the independence anniversaries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Independence days for Mexico and Chile are celebrated on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Columbus Day, also known as Día de la Raza, falls on October 12 within this observance period.
