During October, the Binghamton Fire Department participated in Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing special shirts to raise awareness and support for cancer research. On a recent date, the department presented three checks totaling $2,966.04 to Elizabeth Baldwin, Executive Director of The Baldwin Fund. This total included a $1,500 donation from Bill Newland and the Retired Professional Firefighters Cancer Fund.

The Baldwin Fund has contributed over $5 million to Upstate Medical University for breast cancer research. Currently, it is leading a campaign with a goal of $50 million to help the Upstate Cancer Center achieve National Cancer Institute designation.
