Cold Front Brings Winds and Freezing Temperatures

Staff Report / Binghamtonlocal.org

**Strong Winds and Plummeting Temperatures Expected as Cold Front Passes**

Residents in Otsego and Oneida counties, along with other parts of the region, should prepare for strong winds, freezing temperatures, and potential power outages as a cold front moves through this evening into Monday.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton, NY, has issued a High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory, which remain in effect until 7 p.m. Monday. Wind gusts are expected to peak between 50 and 60 miles per hour from Sunday late afternoon through Monday evening.

### Potential Impacts:

- Strong gusty winds may knock down trees and power lines, causing scattered power outages.

- Ice accumulation on trees and wires in Otsego and Oneida counties could lead to more significant impacts.

- Rain and snow, followed by a potential quick freeze, will exacerbate hazards.

Local emergency services advise residents to take preparedness measures, including:

- Charging all electronics, such as cell phones.

- Having battery-powered flashlights and radios ready.

- Keeping food and water supplies on hand.

Stay informed by monitoring local weather alerts and updates as the storm progresses. For those in affected areas, avoid travel if possible during peak winds and freezing conditions to ensure safety.
