**Lt. Richard Giles Retires After 28 Years of Service with the Binghamton Fire Department**

Today marks the end of an era as Lieutenant Richard Giles of the Binghamton Fire Department completed his final shift, concluding a remarkable 28-year career dedicated to serving the City of Binghamton, New York.

Lt. Giles began his career with the department in 1997, initially working with Group B on the Tower. Over the years, he rotated through every group, spending the majority of his tenure with Group A. For the past decade, he has been a leader at Engine 1, consistently ensuring his crew’s readiness and safety.

He was respected for his calm and steady demeanor, which proved invaluable during emergencies. His extensive knowledge of the fire service made him a trusted advisor to colleagues of all ranks. Additionally, Lt. Giles was known for advocating improvements within the department by addressing concerns and recommending practical solutions to chief officers.

The department bid him a fond farewell, recognizing his leadership, expertise, and commitment. Lt. Giles' contributions to the Binghamton Fire Department will be deeply missed.
