Flash Flood Warning Issued in Northeastern Pennsylvania
The National Weather Service in Binghamton, New York, has issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of northeastern Pennsylvania, including areas in northeastern Lackawanna County, eastern Susquehanna County, and northwestern Wayne County. The warning is in effect until 7:30 PM EDT Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
At 4:23 PM EDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain over the warning area. Between one and two inches of rain has already fallen. Flash flooding is either currently happening or is expected to begin soon. The heavy rain is expected to cause flash flooding in small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other low-lying areas with poor drainage.
Communities that may experience flash flooding include Carbondale, Honesdale, Archbald, Susquehanna, Forest City, Mayfield, Susquehanna Depot, Waymart, Hancock, Lanesboro, Thompson, Union Dale, Prompton, Bethany, Starrucca, Pleasant Mount, Shehawken, Starlight, and Hiawatha. The public is advised to avoid driving through flooded areas.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for NY, PA
A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. EDT for parts of New York and Pennsylvania, including Sullivan County, N.Y., and the northern Lackawanna, central Wayne, northwestern Pike and northeastern Wyoming counties in Pa., as a line of storms moving east at about 30 mph is capable of gusts to 60 mph and hail up to 0.75 inches.

The National Weather Service warns that Lackawanna County, Pa., could see severe thunderstorms with damaging winds this afternoon and evening, brief heavy rain that could cause localized flash flooding, a rapid 20-25 degree temperature drop tonight raising the risk of a flash freeze, gusts of 35-45 mph (stronger in the Poconos), a line of strong to severe storms with isolated tornadoes possible, rivers and streams rising into Tuesday, and lake-effect snow likely by late Tuesday.
