Lackawanna County Issues Extreme Heat Warning Monday
Lackawanna County Emergency in Scranton, Pennsylvania issued an Extreme Heat Warning starting Monday morning at 10 AM and lasting until 8 PM. The warning applies to counties including Broome, Chemung, Onondaga, Schuyler, Tioga, Tompkins, Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming, according to a notice from the National Weather Service in Binghamton, New York, issued on June 22, 2025 at 3:19 PM EDT.
The advisory cautions residents to avoid strenuous activities during the extreme heat. Forecasts indicate high temperatures will reach the 90s on Monday and Tuesday, with highs in the mid-80s to lower 90s on Wednesday. The peak heat index is expected to reach between 95 and 104 degrees, and could go as high as 109 degrees for counties under the Extreme Heat Warning. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for areas outside the warning zone until 8 PM Wednesday.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to remain cool and safe during the period of extreme heat.
