Lackawanna County Braces for Severe Storms Sunday

Lackawanna County officials in Scranton, Pennsylvania, have issued a weather alert for Sunday. A cold front is expected to move through the area, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms. The Lackawanna County Emergency Management Agency reports the potential for severe storms and localized heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding.

Officials noted that some thunderstorms may become strong to severe, with primary hazards including damaging winds, lightning, hail, and locally heavy rain. The exact timing of the cold front remains uncertain and will affect the severity of the storm conditions.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton, New York, also issued an outlook. Their forecast indicated that convective showers may create heavy downpours, potentially leading to isolated flash flooding. The excessive rainfall could cause flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas, particularly east of I-81.

These alerts were issued on July 19, 2025, at 4:23 AM. Residents in Lackawanna County are advised to stay informed of further updates from local authorities and the National Weather Service.
